Syrian president meets Saudi FM

Syrian President Bashar Assad met Wednesday with the visiting Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal in the latest step to improve relations between the two Arab nations. The visit comes after years of tense relations between Saudi Arabia and Syria. The two are on opposite sides of a range of issues including Damascus' close relations with Iran. It also came a day after the Saudi, Egyptian and Syrian foreign ministers all met together in Egypt. Syrian-Saudi relations have been strained since the 2005 assassination of former Lebanese prime minister Rafik Hariri, who had Saudi citizenship. The assassination has been blamed on Syria, a charge the country denies.
