Syrian riot police form ring around US Embassy

Hundreds of Syrian riot police ringed the shuttered and closed US Embassy in Damascus ahead of what is expected to be a mass demonstration in the Syrian capital to protest a deadly US raid near the Iraqi border. The troops, wearing helmets and armed with batons and shields, took up positions around the embassy and the adjacent US residence building. Two fire engines are parked nearby although the anti-American rally is to take place at a square about a mile, or 1.6 kilometers, away. The closure of the embassy and the American school Thursday came because of security concerns. In the past, Syrian rioters have attacked foreign missions here.
