UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has made an unannounced visit to Baghdad to meet with Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, an Iraqi official said.
The prime minister's spokesman said the UN chief was meeting with al-Maliki Friday at his office.
Spokesman Yassin Majid said the two were discussing the relationship between Iraq and the United Nations.
The visit comes a day after the UN chief stopped in Afghanistan and urged US and NATO-led forces to prevent civilian casualties in their operations.
