US military: American soldier killed south of Baghdad

The US military said an American soldier was shot to death south of Baghdad on Tuesday.
The Multi-National Division - Center soldier was killed in a small-arms attack west of Salman Pak.
The town, about 20 kilometers southeast of Baghdad, is also known as Madain.
According to an Associated Press count, the death announcement raised to at least 4,170 the number of members of the US military who have died in the Iraq war since it began in March 2003.
