US soldier dies in eastern Baghdad fighting

One US soldier was killed during fighting in eastern Baghdad, the military said Monday. The Multi-National Division - Baghdad soldier was killed and two others were wounded during combat operations Sunday, according to a statement. It provided no more details, but eastern Baghdad is predominantly Shiite and has seen frequent attacks on American forces by extremists the US military believes are being armed and trained by Iran. Teheran has denied the allegations. At least 3,669 US troops have died since the Iraq war started in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.
