90-year-old killed in hit-and-run; suspect detained

Elderly man found dead in Herzliya; police detain suspected driver; 80-year-old woman hit by car, seriously hurt in Netanya.

Police on Wednesday located and detained for questioning a truck driver suspected of striking and killing a pedestrian earlier in the day before fleeing the scene in Herzliya.
The man allegedly struck an approximately 90-year-old man and fled the scene without stopping to offer him assistance.
The elderly man was discovered in the street early on Wednesday morning. MDA paramedics called to the scene pronounced him dead after efforts to resuscitate him failed.
The man was later identified as Yosef Rubenstein, a Holocaust survivor who lost his family in the Holocaust.
Police searched the area for some three hours before locating and detaining the suspect.
Meanwhile in Netanya, an approximately 80-year-old woman was struck by a car and seriously injured on Wednesday morning. She was evacuated to Laniado Medical Center in the city.
