Following shooting, 4 ex-cops to receive bodyguards

Police decide security measures inadequate after Eldad Hadad, one of the officers who attempted to target an organized crime boss, was subject to assassination attempt.

Four ex-police officers who attempted to target an organized crime boss with explosives in 2006 will receive personal bodyguards, following the attempted assassination of one of the officers in Nahariya on Saturday night.
Eldad Hadad, one of the officers, is in moderate condition in an area hospital after being struck by three bullets fired by two suspects in an attempted drive-by murder. He underwent surgery to remove the bullets and is in stable condition, doctors said.

Hadad, together with colleagues Yaniv Ashur, Yossi Levi, and Rami Musa were released from prison earlier this year after being convicted of planting explosives at the home of mob kingpin Michael Mor.
Until now, police had stationed guards outside their home and deployed patrol cars to pass by their addresses regularly, but those measures were reviewed by Galilee police on Saturday night and found to be inadequate following the shooting.
Two individuals who were detained for questioning in connection with the shooting have since been released, a police spokesman said. The suspects denied any connection to the incident, media reports said.
An intensive investigation has been launched into the shooting by the National Serious and International Crimes Unit, a squad which has access to larger resources than local investigative police units.
No suspects have been arrested on suspicion of carrying out the shooting yet, police said.
