The Border Police and Israel Police are searching for a Palestinian detainee who escaped from officers outside Ofer Prison near Ramallah on Sunday afternoon.

The detainee was arrested earlier in the day after illegally entering Israel, Border Police spokesman Idan Iluz said.

He added that he is not a dangerous security prisoner and that officers know where he lives and how to find him.

The detainee was not handcuffed at the time he managed to attack, and then slip away from, the officers, Iluz said.

Shortly after the man escaped, Border Police head Asst.-Ch. Amos Yaakov opened an investigation into the circumstances behind the escape.
