Jerusalem District Police on Thursday opened an investigation after an anonymous
threat was made against Economy and Trade Minister Naftali Bennett earlier in
The letter sent to his office in Jerusalem addressed Bennett’s
push for “sharing of the national burden” and enlistment of haredim in the army
and national service programs, saying that he will suffer the wrath of the pulsa
denura, or “lashes of fire,” curse and “end up like Sharon,” an apparent
reference to former prime minister Ariel Sharon, who suffered a massive stroke
in January 2006.
The pulsa denura is a curse of death that was famously
invoked by right-wing extremists against then-prime minister Yitzhak Rabin
during the Oslo years.
Israel Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said that
the letter also accused Bennett of discriminating against haredim and warned
that he would be punished by God.
Rosenfeld said that the threat does not
constitute an explicit death threat, but is serious enough for police to open an
