The Tel Aviv District Court on Tuesday sentenced convicted Internet pedophile Avinoam Braverman to 12 years in prison.

The indictment presented to the court last year referred specifically to four girls, though Braverman is suspected of having contacted as many as 1,000 young females over the Internet between 2007 and 2009.

Braverman, who once served in a specialized IDF computer unit, allegedly targeted girls aged eight to 15 in recent years, luring them into text-based and video communications, in which he exposed himself, masturbated in front of them and lured at least three of them into having sex with him.

On-line, Braverman allegedly exploited everyday Web technology to satisfy his pedophilic urges. According to police, Braverman would spend months and years building up virtual relationships.

In a plea bargain he signed last year, Braverman agreed to compensate one of the victims for NIS 60,000 and a second victim for NIS 10,000.
