In one of the most gruesome murders seen in the capital in years, the wife of the man charged with dismembering his ex-spouse was arrested Wednesday as a possible accomplice, police said.

The main suspect, identified by the court as Zev Gorlik, 43, confessed to the murder after he reported his exwife missing two days earlier.

The victim has been identified as Iris Gorlik-Vasiliev, 39.

The identity of Gorlik’s current wife has not been disclosed.

According to Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld, Gorlik worked with powerful chemical agents and attempted to disintegrate the victim’s severed remains in the bathtub of her Neve Yaakov apartment.

Despite denying earlier reports, Rosenfeld confirmed Wednesday that Gorlik’s two children with his current wife were found in a separate room of the apartment after the murder took place. The children, ages four and two, have since been taken into protective custody.

“The woman arrested is the suspect’s current wife,” Rosenfeld said. “She was questioned and subsequently arrested. There are a lot of different angles being investigated because of the [alleged murderer’s] relationship with her.”

Rosenfeld said the woman appeared before the Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court Wednesday after her arrest and is being remanded for 10 days by the court so it can investigate her involvement in the murder.

“We’re looking into the possibility that she was involved in the planning [of the murder],” Rosenfeld said.

A gag order was taken out due to the sensitivity of the case and Rosenfeld was unable to disclose further details. However, Ma’ariv reported Wednesday that the victim’s mother said Gorlik had stopped making childsupport payments for their two children, ages nine and 13, and spoke on Sunday without any signs of strain.
