1: THE RISE OF JAMES BROWN
The biopic Get On Up is based on the life story of the godfather of soul music, James Brown. The film takes a fearless look inside the music, moves and moods of the singer and musician, taking audiences on the journey from his impoverished childhood to his evolution into one of the most influential figures of the 20th century. With Chadwick Boseman as Brown, Nelsan Ellis, Dan Aykroyd.
2: COMING HOME
The exhibition at the Museum of Israeli Art titled “Homecoming/Another Time” showcases 24 works of artist Pessi Marguelis, who lives and works in New York.
This is her first exhibition in Israel. Marguelis lives between “here” and “there,” between a virtual world and reality.

3: SLIHOT CONCERT
Yonatan Dror and Achiya Asher Cohen Aloro present a new version of their diverse Likrat Ne’ila, a show based on renditions of Slihot from across a broad spectrum of communities and traditions.
There will be two performances of the program. One is at the Yellow Submarine in Jerusalem on Sunday at 9:30 p.m., and the other is at the Suzanne Dellal Center in Tel Aviv next Thursday at 9 p.m.

4: MUSICAL SUNSET
Ivri Lider will present a sundown concert on Saturday. Accompanied by his band, one of Israel’s busiest artists will perform his popular repertoire, including songs from his latest gold album.

5: FAMILY TREAT
The Tahana Compound in Tel Aviv is opening a children’s activity center for the holidays, offering a host of activities such as plays, street performances and makeup workshops.
Catch The Tale of an Apple on Friday at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., and The Dragon’s New Friend on Saturday at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Free entrance.
6: GIANTS AND DWARFS
The Nahum Gutman Museum of Art invites families to enjoy a special exhibition created for children called “A Dwarf, a Giant and a Princess.” Children will be able to walk through the galleries and discover works by authors, poets and illustrators, as well as participate in activities such as dwarfs’ football, dressing up and painting. Free for children under 18.

7: DREAMS OF SPAIN
Jose Porcel, one of the hottest names in the field of flamenco in Spain, returns to Israel with a new show, Dreams. And he has invited Israeli flamenco master Sylvia Duran to join him on stage.
The show is Spanish dance at its best, combining Andalusian traditional music and choreography with modern versions and new works by contemporary choreographers.

8: THE OLDEST SIDDUR
Jerusalem’s Bible Lands Museum hosts the unveiling of the oldest known siddur in existence. The 1,200-year-old prayer book, which is being displayed in the museum’s “Book of Books” exhibition, is some 50 pages long, written in Hebrew and in its original binding. Carbontesting of the siddur dates it to the 9th century CE, an important period in Jewish history. The display also showcases rare fragments from the Cairo Geniza, as well as original pages from the Gutenberg Bible.
The siddur will be on display until the exhibition closes after Succot.

9: WIKI LOVES ISRAEL
The world’s largest online photography competition is taking place in Israel to promote the country’s cultural heritage.
Wiki Loves Monuments is taking place for the fourth time worldwide, and for the third time in Israel. The competition will take place simultaneously in 40 countries.
Amateur and professional photographers are welcome to take pictures of any national heritage site in Israel, in accordance with the map and the linked lists, and submit it to the competition via a special upload wizard on Wikimedia Commons. To participate, each user is required to register a Wikimedia Commons account.

10: JAZZ FUSION
Jose James, one of the up and coming forces of American modern jazz, infuses his music with hip hop, soul and groove on top of more classical jazz, creating a new and unique style of music. James will open this year’s Israeli Opera series Jazz in the Mishkan.
