The Appeal for Yaakov Einav

The campaign to save the life of Yaakov Einav will continue for only two weeks.

The "Zichron Menachem" organization that usually deals with children cancer patients and their families launched an international campaign to safe the life of Yaakov Einav, a leukemia patient, of Turkish origin. Bone marrow samples are taken by means of a simple saliva test from the mouth. It is a test similar to the throat swab, and not by means of the feared blood test. As a part of the "Zichron Menachem's" campaign to save the life of Yaakov Einav, what is primarily needed are contribution by Jews of the Eastern communities. This is because research shows that the ability to find a matching bone-marrow sample depends on a number of critical medical components that are based on the genetic origin. The more samples will be available from Jews of Eastern communities and particularly from the Turkish community, the greater the chance of finding a match for Yaakov Einav. The campaign to save the life of Yaakov Einav will continue for two weeks, at the end of which he is slated for an additional hospitalization of chemo-therapy treatment. The length of the campaign was set from medical considerations and the race to find bone marrow will start simultaneously with raising 4,000,000 NIS to finance the checking of 30,000 samples. It is hoped that from the 30,000 samples there will be found at least one contributor who will be able to save Yaakov Einav's life. In the doctors' opinion if a contributor with a complete match will not be found it will b necessary to use samples that are much poorer matched, something that may endanger his life, just as complete lack of a contributor. Yaakov Einav, 45 years old, a resident of Holon, married and father of three aged 22, 17 and 11 and was diagnosed with leukemia on 17.9.07. His parents came to Israel from Turkey in 1949. Yaakov, just like other perceived the meaning of cancer only on the day when he found out that he is sick. Should no bone-marrow match be found soon, it may cost him his life. In view of this, it was decided together with the "Zichron Menachem" organization to turn the campaign to save his life into one to save the lives of additional cancer patients as well as increasing the awareness of the need to establish a national bone-marrow repository. Yaakov Einav: "there is barely a family that has not been touched by this horrendous malady, there is no household that has not been exposed to it, be it father, mother, brother or friend that were forced to live through this dreadful experience." "I need your help, I intend to fight and not succumb to cancer. But unfortunately I need matching bone marrow in order to recover." --Yakov Einav An innovative procedure for bone-marrow sampling - testing by means of a "throat swab." As a part of this campaign we shall seek contributions for financing the cost of bone-marrow testing. The "Zichron Menachem" organization will take bone-marrow samples by means an innovative procedure that is more sensitive and easier on the population, a test by means of a saliva sample. Up till now it was customary to sample by means of a blood test and today it is possible to do the same thing by means of a simple test of saliva from the mouth cavity, atest that is similar to the ordinary throat swab. Since no Israeli laboratory is equipped to analyze such samples, we are forced to send all the samples to a special laboratory in the USA. Each such test, while still being cheaper than a blood test is 188 NIS. After the laboratory test is completed, all the information is entered into the worldwide bone-marrow depository and even if no match will be found for Mr. Einav, the results of these tests could save the lives of hundreds of Israeli and Jewish cancer patients in Israel and the entire world.
