Shay Doron's first season in the WNBA ended on Tuesday night after the New York Liberty was edged 71-70 by the Detroit Shock in the decisive Game 3 of the WNBA first- round playoff series. Doron, who was selected by the Liberty with the 16th pick in this year's WNBA draft, didn't take any part in the game and played just a total of two minutes in the entire series. The 22-year-old has warmed the bench for most of her first season in the US, playing a combined 35 minutes and scoring a total of 10 points in the Liberty's 34- game regular season schedule. For the first time in years Doron will join Israel's national team next week, with the hope of helping the side to a European Championship berth. Israel faces Hungary and Bulgaria home and away in the next two weeks and will need to finish top of the group to progress from the last-chance tournament. Swin Cash's layup with 8.5 seconds remaining in overtime lifted the Shock to victory on Tuesday. Deanna Nolan scored 22 points and Cheryl Ford added 17 points and 10 rebounds to help defending champion Detroit advance to the Eastern Conference finals against Indiana. Game 1 is on Friday at Indianapolis. After Cash's tiebreaking basket, Janel McCarville had a chance to pull the Liberty even with 3.7 seconds left but missed her second free throw, and Loree Moore couldn't keep the rebound inbounds. After cruising to a 73-51 victory in the opener at home, the Liberty fell short in both games on the top-seeded Shock's home court. New York rallied from a 17-point third-quarter deficit before losing 76-73 in Game 2. AP contributed to this report.
