Despite a disappointing final race, Udi Gal and Gidi Kliger claimed the bronze medal at the 470 Class sailing European Championships at Riva del Garda in Italy on Saturday, their last competition before the Beijing Olympic Games.
Gal and Kliger, who have twice previously won silver medals at the European Championships, entered Saturday's medal race in first position overall, but a seventh place finish saw them drop all the way down to third place in the standings.
Eyal Levin and Yam Amir, who will not be in China as each country can only send one team, finished the championships in an impressive sixth place.
Nika Kornicki and Vered Buskila, who will represent Israel in the women's competition in Beijing, ended the European Championships in eighth position.
