Week 6 of the Kraft Family IFL season featured a Thursday-Friday-Saturday tripleheader that saw the three victors make emphatic statements about where they stand in the seven-team league as the meat of the schedule gets underway.
The Big Blue Jerusalem Lions improved to 3-0 with a dominant 70-22 victory over the expansion Beersheva Black Swarm on Thursday night in the capital to keep pace with the Mike's Place Tel Aviv Sabres atop the standings.
The next afternoon in Modi'in, the Real Housing Haifa Underdogs travelled to the center of the country to trounce the host Dancing Camel Pioneers 44-8 behind a second straight multi-touchdown performance from emerging star Alex Fries.
Saturday night's weekend finale at Kraft Stadium - the third annual Channuka Bowl - between the Papagaio Jerusalem Kings and the first-year Judean Rebels certainly lived up to the hype, with the Rebels coming out on top of a wild, back-and-forth 64-60 shootout.
Jon Rubin was once again an explosive force for the Kings in the loss, racking up four TDs on the ground and tossing another to teammate Ari Wajsbort, who also had a brilliant game with 220 total yards and a pair of scores.
However, Rebels QB Joe Martisius stole the show with six combined touchdowns and 178 rushing yards to propel his team back to .500 at 2-2 with the hard-fought victory.
This week's action pits the Kings (1-2) against the Sabres on Thursday night at 8:30 p.m., while the Lions and Underdogs (3-1) face off on Friday at noon. Both games will take place at Kraft Stadium in Jerusalem with plenty of good seats still remaining.
