Dudi Sela returned to Israel late Tuesday night after 10 historic days at Wimbledon and admitted upon his arrival at Ben-Gurion Airport that he was surprised by his success at the All England Club.
"A month ago I would have never believed I could reach the last 16 at Wimbledon," said Sela who lost to Novak Djokovic on Monday.
"I played really well in the tournament apart from the final match in which I was quite nervous. Nevertheless, this achievement gives me a lot of confidence."
Sela and his Davis Cup teammates will officially begin their preparations for next weekend's quarterfinal tie against Russia at the Nokia Arena on Thursday.
"I've been playing well since the start of the year and I hope to continue this way," Sela said. "I hope to show my ability in the Davis Cup next week. It won't be easy against the Russians, but we excel when playing at home. We can record a surprise with the help of the fans."
