Tennis: Pe'er continues good form into quarters

Tennis Peer continues

Shahar Pe'er advanced to the quarterfinals of the Tashkent Open in Uzbekistan on Thursday, defeating Kathrin Woerle of Germany 6-2, 6-4 for her seventh straight win on the WTA Tour. The 46th-ranked Pe'er, who is seeded number 2 in Tashkent, is looking for her second straight title after winning the Guangzhou Open last weekend. Pe'er waited more than three years to claim her fourth career title last week in China, with her first three WTA Tour titles coming at Pattaya City, Prague and Istanbul in 2006. In the quarterfinals in Tashkent, Pe'er will face Russian qualifier Alexandra Panova (160), who advanced by beating seventh-seeded Patricia Mayr of Austria 7-5, 6-1. Fourth-seeded Olga Govortsova of Belarus and Akgul Amanmuradova of Uzbekistan also advanced to the quarterfinals. Govortsova defeated Vesna Manasieva of Russia 6-2, 6-3, and Amanmuradova rallied to oust Ekaterina Bychkova of Russia 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (4). AP contributed to this report.
