Offering an alternative to the sky-high price of hotel rooms around the country, the new Israel hostels organization, ILH, is an on-line service for the independent traveler showcasing reasonably priced, high standard lodgings. The idea originated in a meeting between Maoz Inon, owner of the Fauzi Azar Inn in Nazareth, and Yaron Burgin, manager of Shkedi's Camp Lodge in Moshav Neot Hakikar south of the Dead Sea. They realized they both had the same dream - to offer tourists a unique, affordable encounter with Israel's sites and atmospheres. So they established ILH, which thus far offers rooms at 21 inns nationwide at prices from NIS 40 ($10) to NIS 800 ($200). Joining the duo's own premises are lodgings in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Mitzpe Ramon, Eilat, Nazareth, Tiberias, Kfar Tavor, Nimrod and at Kibbutz Lotan and Kibbutz Paran. The ILH English Web site also features travel tips, useful information, tour suggestions and links. "Our own experience as backpackers guides us in the process of choosing the inns that are members in the ILH, in accordance with international lodging standards," Inon said. "Our goal is to support independent travelers in Israel and to assist in making their stay here comfortable and pleasant," Burgin added. For more information, visit www.hostels-israel.com.
