'Bruni gives birth to baby girl'

French first lady Carla Bruni gives birth to a baby girl, French media reports, her first child with husband President Nicolas Sarkozy and the first baby born to a French presidential couple in office.

France's First Lady Carla Bruni gave birth to a baby girl on Wednesday with French media reporting that the baby was born around 8 p.m. local time at a hospital in Paris.

Earlier in the day - French President Nicolas Sarkozy had visited his wife - a singer and former model - before traveling to Germany to meet with Chancellor Angela Merkel and European Union officials.

Late Wednesday, he was on his way back to France after talks to try to find a plan to stem the euro zone debt crisis.

Sarkozy has three children from his two previous marriages and the Italian born Bruni has a son from a former relationship.
