Defense Ministry releases first images of new Jordan border security fence

NIS 300 million project straddling the Arava region is set to be complete in the coming months.

The Defense Ministry has released its first images of the security fence being constructed along the border with Jordan, between Eilat and Holot Samar, which is just north of Timna.
The NIS 300 million project straddling the Arava region will be complete in the coming months, the ministry said, and is modeled on the barriers that exist on the border with Egypt and on the Golan Heights.
The Seamline Administration’s head, Brig.-Gen. Eran Ofir, and the Defense Ministry’s Engineering and Construction Branch have in recent days built the first few kilometers of the eastern fence.
Ofir oversaw the building of fences along the Sinai and Golan borders, and will now be building 30 kilometers of the new barrier. A separate fund has been created by the government to pay for the construction.
In addition to the barrier, security roads, watchtowers, control rooms and electronic sensors will be built.
“Work will also include setting up unique reinforcements in the Ilan Ramon Airport, which is being built these days near Timna,” the ministry said.
