A Palestinian woman motorist whom authorities say sought to run over a group of Border Police officers near the West Bank village of Silwad was shot and killed just before sundown on Friday.
No Israelis were injured in the incident.
According to a police statement, the officers noticed that the woman began accelerating her vehicle toward their position. At that point, one of the officers opened fire and scored a direct hit, killing the motorist.
Car rammings have been a commonly used tactic by Palestinian assailants during the course of what is becoming known in Israel as "the lone wolf intifada" that has unfolded these past few months.
Twenty Israelis and a US citizen have been killed in such incidents since the start of October. Israeli forces or armed civilians have killed at least 126 Palestinians, 77 of whom authorities described as assailants, while others died in clashes with security forces.
In a separate incident along the Gaza Strip frontier, Israeli troops opened fire at a group of stone-throwing Palestinians who approached the border fence, killing one of them, a Palestinian health official said.
The Israeli military said that hundreds of Palestinians had gathered near the border and were trying to damage the fence by hurling rocks and rolling burning tires at it, and to prevent infiltration, soldiers opened fire at the main instigators.
Earlier on Friday, clashes broke out between Palestinian protesters and the IDF in the West Bank.
Some 150 Palestinians rioted near the Tekoa settlement in the Gush Etzion area. The IDF used tear gas and rubber bullets in an attempt to disperse the protesters.
Separately a clash broke out on the outskirts of Ramallah, near the Beit El settlement in the Binyamin region of the West Bank.
