IDF, Palestinians clash in Bethlehem
Palestinian youths clashed with Israeli troops near the Bethlehem, West Bank checkpoint on Tuesday.
The Palestinians hurled stones and Molotov cocktails at the Israeli troops who fired tear gas bombs, stun grenades and rubber coated bullets in return.
The clashes came after a funeral procession that took place earlier on Tuesday for 19-year-old Malik Shahin, from Bethlehem who was shot and killed during an Israeli army arrest raid.
The Israeli military said violence erupted during "routine activity" when its troops encountered a barrage of "pipe bombs, Molotov cocktails and rolling burning tires and fired warning shots in the air to disperse the mob and prevent an escalation".
Since Oct. 1, Israeli forces have killed 105 Palestinians, 65 of whom Israel says were assailants or had been caught on camera carrying out assaults. Most of the others were killed in clashes with police or troops. One US citizen and 19 Israelis have been killed in Palestinian attacks.
