B'Tselem executive director Haggai Elad is set to address the United Nations Security Council on Thursday, according to a B'Tselem statement to the press.
Elad's invitation to speak before the world body on the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, among other topics, has drawn criticism from the Israeli government.
Israel Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon lashed out at B’Tselem for accepting such an invitation, particularly one issued by a country like Bolivia, which has called IDF soldiers “murderers.”
“This is not only a shame and a disgrace for the organization, but it also crosses redlines for those foreign countries with an anti-Israel agenda that finance and then invite [B’Tselem] to give testimony again us,” Danon said.
Elad will also discuss what he calls Israel's attempts to forcibly remove thousands of Palestinians from their agricultural land in the West Bank, as well as the anticipated demolition of Khan al-Ahmar.

"I will be at the UN Security Council to speak on behalf of the hundreds of thousands of Israelis who oppose the occupation," Elad was quoted as saying in the statement, "who ardently wish it were over, who seek a future of equality, justice and human rights for all thirteen million people living between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea.”
United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Nickolay Mladenov, Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon, Palestinian Ambassador to the UN Riyad Mansour, and others are also expected to speak at the meeting.
