Every autumn, the Israeli dance community fills with anticipation for the annual Curtain Up Festival. Now in its twenty-third year, the festival offers a platform to local independent choreographers, sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Sport.
This year’s program includes four evenings consisting of 11 premiers by choreographers both emerging and mid-career. The two artistic directors of this year’s festival, Yoram Karmi and Ronit Ziv, each spent the past several months in the studio with their chosen choreographers, assisting them in the creative process.
Now, they have each assembled the new dance pieces into two evenings, which will no doubt be the point of many conversations among dance lovers in the coming weeks. The Curtain Up Festival will take place from November 14-29 with performances at the Suzanne Dellal Center and the Jerusalem Theater.
