Celebrating its bar mitzvah year, the annual Renaissance Festival has expanded its usual one day of celebrations to three days of concerts and programs set to take place on September 29 - October 1. Located in Mateh Asher, the Festival will feature performances by artists both from Israel and abroad.
"We're going to have a lot of small concerts, some dancing, some theater, all in the period of the renaissance," commented Tami Shachar-Yaron, spokesperson for the festival. "There are a lot of activities for adults and children. It's a very, very beautiful open place with a wonderful view."
The opening concert will be performed on the beach of Achziv, known as the Banana beach. Three singers - Netanela, Ephi ben Zaken, and Yeela Avital - will perform with an ensemble of Israeli contemporary string quartets and the Melzer consort of recorders. Thursday's program begins with Elizabethean music, followed by Jewish Romances from Medieval Spain, and Israeli songs arranged by well-known composers.
On Friday, the festival will feature two concerts, one at Kibbutz Eilon at 17:00 p.m., and on the roof of the fortress of Yechiam, the central site for the festival, at 21:00. These concerts include performances by Paul Yuval Adam from Germany with David Deor.
Saturday will feature 25 concerts and different programs for the whole family beginning at 10:00. Of special note is the Festival's "Recorder's Garden of Eden" where participants listen to recorded music and complete a questionnaire in order to receive a prize. Admission is 60 shekels for adults, 30 shekels for children.
