2. FIND INNER PEACE
A new dance evening inspired by Rabi’ah al-Adawiyya, an eighth-century Sufi mystic who spoke of love and compassion, premieres in Tel Aviv. The work, created by choreographer Orly Portal, explores the relations between the exposed and the secretive, searching for inner peace.

3. DISCOVER A LOST TRIBE
Artist Rachel Weitzman brings rare documentation of the women of the Abu Yehudia, an extinct Jewish tribe in Uganda. The artist discovered evidence of the tribe’s existence on a visit to Uganda and was intrigued by the beauty of the women and children of the tribe, which became Jewish in 1919 when a local general decided to establish a Jewish community, teaching them Torah and giving them Hebrew names.

4. COLLECT A WORK OF ART
Golconda Exchange No. 5, the annual art sale of the Contemporary Gallery, will take place August 30 to September 1. Some 300 works by veteran and upcoming artists will be offered at special prices, allowing young art lovers to take their first steps in the art-collecting world. On display are works by such artists as Arie Aroch, Tamar Getter, Yitzhak Danziger and Yigal Tumarkin.

5. BLOWING IN THE WIND
To celebrate the completion of the restoration work on the Montefiore Windmill, Mishkenot Sha’ananim will hold literary events, as well as guided tours and many free family activities on Wednesday and Thursday. The windmill is expected to start operating and even grinding flour by wind power very soon.

For three consecutive weekends, boutique breweries in the Mateh Yehuda region invite beer and music lovers to enjoy their unique brews, as well as live music, home-cooked meals, open studios of local artists and much more from August 30 to September 15. 7. GET READY FOR THE HIGH HOLY DAYS
Listen to slihot and piyutim, sung in the synagogues of Jerusalem on the nights preceding the High Holy Days with experienced tour guides. The tours take participants on evening walks through the streets of the city and into unique synagogues.

8. SACRED MUSIC
A festival of sacred music in Jerusalem is the next installment of the Jerusalem Culture Season.
Musicians from Iran, Iraq, Morocco, Zimbabwe, Brazil, Azerbaijan and Israel will perform in a musical event that will take place over 24 hours. Among the artists participating are Gnawa groove musician Hasan Chachmon (pictured), Yossi Fine, singer Sevda Alakbarzadeh, Berry Sakharof, Zohar Fresco and Mark and Peretz Eliyahu. The festival will take place in the many halls of the Tower Of David, as well as a few other venues.
There will also be tours focusing on religious rituals that are part of the rich cultural heritage of Jerusalem.

9. BECOME ORDINARY
An international group exhibition of artists opens at the Shenkar Art School on September 5. The exhibition explores the concept of “ordinary,” giving it new interpretations.
Some 39 artists, among them illustrators, sculptors, photographers, animators and painters, will participate. These include guest artists such as Itzik Renert, head of the visual communications department and Itamar Daube, head of the illustration department at Shenkar.

10. MAGIC MUSHROOMS
Psychedelic glass artist Sergei Bunkov is having a one-man show at the Holon Theater Gallery next week. The title of the exhibition, “Muscaria Amanita,” is the name of a poisonous mushroom that has a psychedelic effect. Bunkov’s works are infused with colorful details and mysterious figures. He uses sandblasting together with other techniques he invented, working on both sides of the glass to add dimension and depth to his works.
