It had to happen. The Cameri is pulling in capacity crowds for its production of Peter Shaffer's Amadeus, starring Itay Tiran as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The Israel Philharmonic conducted by Zubin Mehta will present Ruggero Raimundi in the title role of Don Giovanni from January 27 to February 2. So what better than an encounter between a musical titan and one of Israel's most exciting young actors? The Cameri will host an event devoted to Mozart's music and the play depicting the short and brilliant arc of his life on the weekend of January 29-31. The highlight will be on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. when Mehta and the Israel Philharmonic will play music by Mozart, including the overture to Don Giovanni. The actors will present scenes from the play, Mehta will conduct and talk about Mozart with Gil Shohat as host. Other events include chamber concerts by the Israel Philharmonic string and flute quartets, a performance of Amadeus (January 29) and, at the Mann Auditorium, the scheduled performance of Don Giovanni.
