If you're looking for credentials in the world of Brazilian music they don't come much higher than those of Maucha Adnet. She's filled the role of vocalist for legendary composer-pianist and co-creator of the bossa nova musical genre Antonio Carlos Jobim. Adnet recorded four albums with Jobim, and is due to return to Israel for a 3-date tour between October 5-8. Her previous visit here was in 1994, when she appeared alongside Jobim at Jerusalem's Sultan's Pools.
This time round Adnet will perform with a local threesome which includes guitarist Amos Hoffman, bass player Gilad Abro and drummer Shay Zelman, the last of whom collaborated with Adnet in New York in the 1990s. Adnet's repertoire here will be based on her 1999 release, naturally entitled Songs I Learned from Jobim, which mixes bossa nova and other Brazilian rhythms with ballads and jazz motifs.
Adnet has been based in New York for some time and regularly performs and records with leading American jazz artists, such as Lincoln Jazz Center director trumpeter Wynton Marsalis and trombonist Slide Hampton. She also appeared on trumpeter Randy Brecker's Grammy Award-winning album Into The Sun.
Maucha Adnet will perform at Shuni Castle in Binyamina on October 5 at 9:30 p.m., the Herzliya Camelot Club on October 6 at 9:30 p.m. and at Jerusalem's Hamaabada on October 8 at 9:30 p.m.
