Popular singer-songwriter Suzanne Vega will be returning to Israel for one show on July 19 at the Mann Auditorium in Tel Aviv. Her new wave-tinged contemporary folk music struck a chord in the 1980s, highlighted by her breathy, near-whisper delivery. Hits like "Marlene on the Wall," "Luka" and "Tom's Diner" cemented her position as one of the most original writers and performers of her era. The Barnard College-educated artist was heavily influenced by Lou Reed and the Greenwich Village community of raw folk singers and rockers. Her most recent album, 2007's Beauty & Crime, focused on New York City in the wake of 9/11. Vega last performed in Israel in 1999.
