Those Who Have Doomed Us to War

These are the U.S. Senators who have stated that they will support the agreement with Iran.  These are the U.S. Senators who had they been alive in 1938 would have applauded Neville Chamberlain.  When Iran starts using atomic weapons, they will feign shock and protest that the horror they are responsible for was unforeseeable and certainly not their fault because they had such fine intentions.  They will protest that they never imagined that a nation that supports and propagates terrorism throughout the world, threatens to annihilate Israel, regularly chants “death to America,” arrests and executes gays, oppresses women, tortures, and suppresses all human rights could possibly develop and use nuclear weapons, especially given that they have this fine piece of paper signed by the Iranians who are really, deep down somewhere, trustworthy, reasonable and rational actors who couldn’t possibly just be lying to them.

They believe that this agreement will actually, magically, if you squint just right, somehow prevent the Islamic Republic from acquiring the bomb.

They all seriously believe they are doing what’s best.  They are convinced that they are making the best decision possible.  They genuinely believe that they are voting for peace.  They want to give peace a chance, but instead are insuring the very thing they are trying to avoid. They refuse to face reality and insist on living in the dream world of their imagination and ideologies.

I take to heart, as I consider the people in this list, the words attributed to Napoleon: “Never ascribe to malice what is more easily explained by stupidity and incompetence.”

Of course, these Senators aren’t alone in making poor choices.  I feel compelled to condemn the Speaker of the House John Boehner (Ohio), along with Bob Corker (Tenn.) who are responsible for setting up this charade in the first place.  The Constitution is quite clear about treaties and how they are to be handled. The President, the Speaker of the House, the Republican and Democratic leadership have all chosen to abandon their oaths to uphold and defend the Constitution and the United States. They are all incompetents who care only about their power, and their prestige. They are fiddling while the world burns. As far as I can see, the overwhelming majority of Representatives and Senators of both parties, along with the President, are not deserving of the offices that they hold.
