4 arrested in connection with major kidnapping operation

Police revealed on Sunday a major kidnapping operation in Sinai, that involved kidnapping Eritrean migrants and then extorting their families in Israel to pay $15,000 in ransom.

Four Jews from Netanya including one teenager were arrested for serving as contacts between the Eritrean families and a a suspected Hamas operative in East Jerusalem, who is suspected of transferring the money to Hamas in Gaza.

The kidnapping in question took place on August 25, when the family of a kidnapped migrant was approached. The family said he was kidnapped in Sinai and they had to pay 50,000 NIS in two days in order for him to live.
