4-hour Bikur Cholim strike over gov't failure to save it

Employees at Jerusalem’s bankrupt Bikur Cholim Hospital began a strike at 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

During the four-hour strike, doctors, nurses, administrative and maintenance staffers will march from the hospital towards the Western Wall.

The hospital management said the 143-year-old institution will have to shut down forever on Sunday if the government does not transfer the money; the Treasury prefers that the hospital closes down.

The protest is against the government’s "inability" to decide to transfer a one-time grant of NIS 30 million to keep it afloat until it can become financially stable "in 18 months," the management said on Tuesday.

It will function on an emergency schedule only, with deliveries performed as usual but refusal to accept non-urgent patients brought in ambulances or others coming to the emergency room.
