A-G instructs police to continue fight against Betar racism

Attorney-General Yehuda Weinstein sent a letter to the owner of Betar Jerusalem on Monday night to inform of his decision regarding what he called the “serious and worrying outbreak of overt hatred and racism from certain Betar Jerusalem fans surrounding the addition of two Muslim players to the team.”
Weinstein said that “such racism was fit to be fought against in every arena that it raises its ugly head.”
The attorney-general said that he instructed the police to continue to aggressively combat the phenomenon and that sanctions would be used and actions taken such as banning those who undertake racist actions from all sporting events and not only the game where they acted in a racist manner, stopping games mid-game, detention, arrest, full criminal proceedings and changing legislation to be stricter and better deter violators.
Weinstein will receive a report on progress regarding the situation in three months.
