Abbas aide: PA will not give in to Israeli extortion

An aide to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas vowed Tuesday that the PA would "not yield to extortion," in response to reports that Israel might again withhold Palestinian tax revenues in the event of a renewal by the PA of efforts to gain UN membership.
The Palestinian Ma'an news agency quoted presidential adviser Nimir Hammad as saying that the PA would not abandon its efforts to join the UN as a full member state. "The Palestinian application is at the UN, and inability to get nine member states to vote in favor never means giving up the Palestinian right to demand statehood," he added.
Hammad added that Israel's threats to freeze the tax revenues were illegal and the government had been force to rescind the previous freeze after being "boycotted by many countries."
