Abbas leaves for Iran, set to raise statehood issue at NAM

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas departed for Tehran on Wednesday, where he will raise the issue of a unilateral bid for Palestinian statehood via the United Nations, Abbas's aide Nabil Abu Rudeina said Wednesday according to AFP.
"The president will meet with other delegations attending the summit and will deliver a speech about the stalled peace process and the importance of supporting the Palestinian people's rights, especially in east Jerusalem," Rudeina said. "The decision of the NAM summit will have an effect on the Palestinian UN bid to seek non-member state status for Palestine."
