Abbas: Recent settlement moves will destroy peace process

The Israeli government's recent moves to intensify settlement projects will destroy the peace process, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said Thursday in a meeting with Meretz leader Zahava Gal-on, according to Palestinian news agency Wafa.

Abbas told a delegation of Israelis, headed by Gal-on, that the Palestinians were still committed to a peace process based on international resolutions and the 1967 borders with east Jerusalem as the their capital.

He added that only after a halt in all settlement activities could negotiations resume, through which permanent status issues could be resolved, Wafa reported.
