Abbas reportedly expects to visit Washington

WASHINGTON -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas expects an invitation to visit the White House soon, chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat told a Palestinian radio station on Monday.
The White House declined to confirm or deny any planned meeting between Abbas and US President Barack Obama when questioned on Erekat's comments.
Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu will visit Washington next week, when he will address the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, and hold private meetings with the president and US Secretary of State John Kerry.
Erekat, speaking from Moscow where he briefed Russian officials on the progress of peace talks with Israel, said that ideas for a framework for negotiations were still being weighed, but that no framework had been agreed upon by the two sides.
Talks are set to expire in April, barring an extension of a deadline imposed by Washington on the rebooted peace process.
