Underworld kingpin Asi Abutul, who is serving a prison sentence at the Gilboa jail facility in the North, was indicted on Wednesday for alleged threats he made against the penitentiary's warden.
According to a charge sheet submitted by police before a Rishon Lezion Magistrate's Court, Abutbul composed a letter earlier this month to the warden to protest his conditions, and wrote, "God will punish you... in the same way you are abusing us... you will stand in court and we will erase you. You're a bad man and you know how it continues."
Police said Abutbul sought to "frighten or humiliate" the prison chief.
Abutbul's attorney, Keren Nahari, said the fact that her client wrote the letter in his own handwriting and signed it proves that he did not seek to threaten anyone.
