After Sharansky, Erdan decline job, PM to pick UN envoy

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu will select appropriate candidates to be Israel's next ambassador to the United Nations and then select the most appropriate candidate for the post, Israel Radio reported on Thursday.

The announcement came in the wake of two prominent figures clarifying that they were not interested in the job. Jewish Agency head Natan Sharansky recently said that he has no intention of leaving his current job after his name was floated as a possible candidate. Also, Environmental Protection Minister Gilad Erdan said that he was not interested in leaving his ministry.

Sources close to the prime minister noted that he has a close familiarity with the foreign service and especially the post at the UN, which he once held.
