Alex Kushnir tapped as new Immigration Ministry director-general

The government on Sunday approved the appointment of Alex Kushnir as the new director-general of the Immigration and Absorption Ministry.
Minister of Immigration and Absorption Sofa Landver proposed the appointment, which she described as "further breaking the glass ceiling for immigrants who came to Israel in the 1990s."
Kushnir, 37, immigrated to Israel from Ukraine at the age of 13 and now lives in Ashkelon, in Israel's southern district. In recent years he has worked in management positions in the private sector, as well as having served as the Belarus country director of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee. In addition, he has served in a number of roles in the field for the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency).
"Kushnir has vast management experience and I'm certain he will know well how to deal with the Ministry's challenges," Landver said.
Kushnir thanked Landver for her faith in his appointment, and said that, as an immigrant himself, he sees the role as "closing the circle."  He added that aliya (immigration) is one of the most important pillars of Zionism."
