American sentenced for planning to aid Taliban

A federal judge has sentenced a Houston man to 4.5 years in prison for conspiring to join the Taliban and fight against US forces. Kobie Diallo Williams apologized for his actions and said he was wrong for what he did before being sentenced Friday in federal court. Williams, also known as Abdul Kabir, was a student at the University of Houston-Downtown when he was arrested in November 2006 by the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force. He had pleaded guilty to the conspiracy charge right after his arrest. Authorities say Williams was among a group of men who took part in paramilitary training exercises. The training was disguised as camping trips and was designed to hone skills to help the Taliban fight US troops in Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan.
