Amnesty calls for halting of arms transfers to Egypt

Amnesty International called for global arms suppliers to cease transferring "small arms, ammunition and other repressive equipment to the Egyptian military and security forces" due to the violent clashes between security forces and opponents to army rule.
The organization said Monday it opposed the use of "excessive force" by Egyptian forces to disperse protesters as they attempted to clear Tahrir Square from an ongoing sit in.
The organization said it was no longer "acceptable to supply the Egyptian army with the types of weaponry, munitions, and other equipment that are being used" against protesters.
At least 13 protesters have been killed in the last four days.
