Amnesty charges: Israel failed to fulfill int'l obligations

Amnesty International Israel on Thursday attacked Israel's decision to bar entry to 18 of the 21 migrants seeking to enter the country, saying the Jerusalem failed to live up to its international obligations.
"The Israeli government admitted today at the High Court of Justice that the group of Eritreans are within Israeli territory," the group stated. "This obligates the country to allow them to submit requests for asylum, which was not done, and which therefore marks a disregard for its international obligations vis-à-vis refugees."
The group charged that the migrants stand a good chance of being sent back to Eritrea via Egypt, and once there could face a real danger to their safety.
