Arabs protest espionage suspect's arrest in Petah Tikva

Arab protesters, led by Islamic Movement leader Raed Salah, held a demonstration Monday morning outside the Petah Tikva Magistrate's Court against the arrest of a leading Arab Israeli political activist on espionage charges.
Ameer Makhoul, 42, head of Ittijah  (the Union of Arab Community-Based Associations) - an umbrella group for Arab NGOs in Israel - was arrested in recent weeks by the Shin Bet [Israel Security Agency] on suspicion of spying for Hizbullah and conspiring with enemy agents.
Makhoul's lawyers boycotted Monday's remand-extension hearing, saying it was a protest at not being allowed to meet with their client.
