Israeli killed in ATV crash during Romania vacation

"We received with a heavy heart the news that a resident of our city was killed in a tragic accident," Ashkelon mayor said in a statement.

Nikita Bogolymov, 24 years old, was the Israeli man killed in an ATV accident in Ploiești, a Romanian city some 60 kilometers north of capital Bucharest, the municipality of his hometown Ashkelon confirmed on Sunday.

"We received with a heavy heart the news that a resident of our city was killed in a tragic accident," the mayor said in a statement.

"Ashkelon in its entirety is mourning along with the grieving family."

Welfare officials from the municipality are in direct contact with Nikita's parents and brothers in order to give them "every bit of support needed at this time," he added.

Israel's Embassy in Romania was aware of the incident and was in contact with the young man's family prior to the municiaplity's confirmation.
