Ashkenazi officially says goodbye to IDF after 40 years

IDF Chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi on Sunday left the army after 40 years at the ceremony at the Prime Minister's Office in which his successor Benny Gantz was granted the rank of Lieuteneant-General and given command of the IDF.
Ashkenazi said that during his four year tenure as chief of General Staff "we didn't build the IDF, but we tried to renew the people's pride in the army."
The outgoing chief of General Staff stated the importance of making sure the IDF continued to rely on the people and prevent evasion of service going forward.
