Australia calls for sanctions on Syria

LONDON - Australia called on Thursday for the world to consider imposing sanctions on Syria over its violent crackdown on protesters.
"We believe the time has come for the international community now to consider the use of sanctions against the Syrian regime," Australian Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd told reporters after a meeting at the Commonwealth headquarters in London.
