Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon expressed hope Monday that in this week's meeting between Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and US President Barack Obama it will be stressed to Abbas that if he wants progress on the peace process, he must back down from his position of demanding everything and being unwilling to compromise.
Speaking to Israel Radio, Ayalon said US determination to arrange an Israeli-Palestinian meeting had overcome Palestinian "defiance."
"If Abbas thought he could pressure Israel by refusing to meet Netanyahu, the summit has destroyed this notion," he said.
