Ayalon: Unilateral moves critically hurt peace process

Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon on Wednesday met with the political director of the German Federal Foreign Office, Dr. Emily Haber, imploring her not to support the Palestinian bid for the recognition of a state by the UN.

Ayalon, on a diplomatic visit to Germany ahead of next weeks Quartet meeting about the peace process, explained to Haber Israel's opposition to unilateral Palestinian moves. "These steps contain the danger of Palestinian disappointment, which will critically damage the peace process and cause the situation to spiral out of control."

The deputy foreign minister added: "Israel and Germany see eye to eye on the importance of the peace process and oppose unilateral steps."
